On Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9am-12:30pm, the ISO will present its third Audition Prep Master Class for high school string players. String students in grades 9-12 are invited to register and take part in this free event to learn about audition requirements, tips, and tricks from our panel of experts.
A limited number of students will have the opportunity to perform a 1-2 minute excerpt of their audition piece in front of professionals and peers. They'll receive direct feedback and critique from the panel, which includs ISO string musicians and professors from Butler, DePauw, Ball State, and more!

If you're looking to audition for college programs or the ISO's Side-by-Side program, this masterclass is a perfect preparation resource!

FAQs:

How is the workshop structured?
9am-9:50am – Panel discussion about audition requirements & preparation tips from our panel of ISO Musicians and College Professors.
10:00am-12:30pm - "Mock" Audition Masterclass. 15-minute mock audition slots will be given on a first come, first served basis. Each student who signs up for a slot will perform a 1-2 minute excerpt of an audition piece for the group. Our panel will be providing verbal & written feedback to the students.

Who can register?
All high school string players with an interest in auditioning for various music programs are encouraged to attend. We’ll have representatives discussing college auditions, professional auditions, and auditions for extra-curricular music programs (i.e. Side-by-Side).

What if I don't want to play?
That's ok! Musicians can learn a lot from simply observing a masterclass, plus you'll have the opportunity to ask questions during the panel discussion. You'll still leave with some really great audition tips and preparation tricks!

Besides signing up, what do I need to prepare for my mock audition?
Prepare an excerpt of an audition piece and submit a PDF of your music to PAccetturo@IndianapolisSymphony.org by Friday, September 8th.Your excerpt must be clearly marked in your music. Audition slots are limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis. If you do not provide your excerpt, clearly notated, by September 8th, your spot will be given to a student on the waiting list.
