Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Butler University-Jordan College of the Arts launch new concert series featuring ISO musicians and faculty 

INDIANAPOLIS— The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO) and Butler University-Jordan College of the Arts (JCA) are excited to announce a new collaborative concert series that celebrates the world-class musicians of the ISO who also serve as faculty at Butler University. This unique partnership deepens the longstanding relationship between two of Indianapolis’ most esteemed cultural institutions, bringing together artistry and education in a remarkable way. 

  

The series will consist of four concerts held throughout the 2024–25 season at the Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall on Butler University’s campus. Each concert will be hosted by ISO concertmaster and Butler JCA Artist-in-Residence Kevin Lin, offering audiences an intimate and engaging musical experience. 

  

Concert Schedule: 

  

– September 4, 2024 – Timeless Works for Brass 

This opening concert features Butler faculty members Allen Miller (trumpet) and Anthony Kniffen (tuba), alongside ISO brass musicians Richard Graef (horn), Daniel Lewis (trumpet), and Ryan Miller (trombone). Together, they will present a rousing program of brass quintet music, showcasing the virtuosity and power of these incredible artists. 

  

– October 16, 2024 – Folksy Flute and Strings  

Butler University’s professor of flute and ISO member, Alistair Howlett, will join ISO string players Melissa Deal and Bryson Karrer (violin), Caleb Cox (viola), and Sam Viguerie (cello) for a delightful program inspired by folk songs along with Mozart’s Quartet for flute and strings.  

  

– January 22, 2025 – Sphinx with Kevin Lin  

Kevin Lin, Butler JCA Artist-in-Residence and ISO Concertmaster, will be joined by musicians from the Sphinx Organization in a concert that highlights the exceptional talent and diversity of this renowned ensemble. 

  

– March 5, 2025 – Mozart and Brahms 

The series concludes with a masterful program featuring Butler JCA faculty member and ISO clarinetist Trina Gross. Gross will perform Mozart’s iconic Clarinet Quintet alongside ISO string players, who will also present Brahms’ epic Sextet for Strings No. 1, offering a fittingly grand finale to this remarkable series. 

  

The concert series represents a significant opportunity for audiences to experience world-class music in an intimate setting while celebrating the shared mission of the ISO and Butler University to enrich the cultural life of Indianapolis.
