Musician Bio

Andrew Stump is a violinist, violist, hornist and trombonist
originally from the Washington D.C. area. He is very grateful to be
joining the viola section of the ISO at the start of the 2026-2027
season. Andrew completed his undergraduate studies in horn
performance at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2022, under the
instruction of Jennifer Montone and Jeffery Lang. He began a
master’s degree double majoring in violin and viola performance at
the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2024. He
studied violin with Joel Smirnoff and Simin Ganatra, and viola with
Stephen Wyrczynski. His violin and viola teachers also include
Davyd Booth and Kerri Ryan of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well
as Jonathan Chu and Beth Guterman Chu of the Saint Louis
Symphony.
Andrew also played trombone and other low brass instruments in
middle school, though he dedicated himself exclusively to the
french horn during high school and for his undergraduate study.
Recently he rediscovered the trombone, and got the opportunity to
work as the bass trombonist on the music staff at the Adirondack
Performing Arts Festival at Camp-of-the-Woods during the summer
of 2026, which he enjoyed immensely.
Andrew is first and foremost a Christian and a firm believer in the
Bible. He strives to always make his music-making a ministry and a
vehicle to glorify God, and never an accomplishment for its own
sake.
