Maia Ruiz-Law

Second Violin

Musician Bio

Maia Ruiz-Law is a Filipino-American violinist from Chicago, Illinois. She started playing the violin when she was five years old, after hearing a recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. She joined the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 2026 and previously performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. 

Maia was the winner of the 2022 Indiana University Violin Concerto Competition and was an ambassador for the Cuban American Youth Orchestra in Havana. She has been a fellow at the Music Academy of the West and Round Top Festival Institute. 

Maia studied at Indiana University with Mark Kaplan, where she earned a dual degree in music and psychology as a Herman B. Wells Scholar. She completed her masters degree at the University of Southern California with Bing Wang and was a recipient of the Rosen Strings Prize.

While away from the violin, Maia enjoys spending time with her partner, playing with her dog, hiking, and rehairing bows.
