Fangming Shen

Musician Bio

Fangming Shen joins the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 2025. She has performed as soloist, chamber, and orchestra musician in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Seiji Ozawa Hall, and many others. She is a prizewinner at competitions including the Marbury Prize String Competition and Yale Gordon Concerto Competition.

As an avid chamber musician, Shen was the founding member of the “Silk Ruby Trio”, which was selected as Honor Ensemble in Peabody’s Chamber Department as well as awarded the Grace Clagett Ranny Prize in Chamber Music. Her mentors include members of Juilliard, Emerson, Brentano, and Cooperstown String Quartets. She has participated in festivals such as Tanglewood Music Center, Kneisel Hall, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar, working with artists including Midori Goto, Yo-Yo Ma, Noah Bendix-Balgley, and many others.

Originally from China, Shen is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University as an Excellence in Music Leadership Fellow, studying with Herbert Greenberg, the former concertmaster of Baltimore Symphony. Shen holds a teaching assistant position for Mr. Greenberg’s studio and a violin faculty position at the Howard School of Music, while maintaining a vibrant private studio and offering online lessons and masterclasses to students worldwide.
