Musician Bio

Alexander Schwarz is originally from Wood Dale, Illinois, where he began playing trumpet at the age of nine. Known for his flourishing career as an orchestral musician, he has performed with several major symphony orchestras across the U.S. as well as overseas. Most notably, Alexander served as Principal Trumpet of the Louisville Orchestra for four seasons before he moved on to perform as Assistant Principal Trumpet with the Phoenix Symphony. He currently holds the position of Acting Principal Trumpet with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Other notable ensembles that Alexander has performed with include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Omaha Symphony, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Music of the Baroque, Sun Valley Music Festival, Louisville Brass, Ensemble Dal Niente, and the Millar Brass Ensemble.

As a student, Alexander received his Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University in 2016 where he studied with Charles Geyer, Barbara Butler, Chris Martin and Robert Sullivan. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Civic Orchestra of Chicago as a Trumpet Fellow for their 2016-2018 seasons under the tutelage of members of the Chicago Symphony. He went on to pursue his Master of Music degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas.

As a chamber musician, one of Alexander’s greatest musical pursuits has been the brass quintet and brass ensemble. He has performed with brass quintets in various settings including educational concerts, recitals, and clinics while touring across the U.S. with brass faculty members of the University of Louisvill. Alexander embodies musical excellence and a collaborative spirit while performing in brass quintet as well as sharing that pursuit with young aspiring musicians. Collaboration and education collide when performing in the brass quintet, which is what makes it Alexander’s favorite kind of music making outside of full orchestra.
