Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra chamber musicians bring intimate performances to Central Indiana in 2026–27
Members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will bring the artistry and intimacy of chamber music to audiences across Central Indiana during the 2026–27 season, with four programs featuring music by composers ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary composer Kenji Bunch, the ISO’s 2026–27 Composer in the Spotlight.
Presented at the University of Indianapolis’ DeHaan Performing Arts Center and Butler University’s Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall, with an additional performance at Anderson University and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the ISO Chamber Music Series offers audiences the opportunity to experience ISO musicians in smaller ensembles and more intimate settings.
The season opens September 14–17 with Viola Quintets with members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, featuring two string quintets. The program pairs Mozart’s String Quintet No. 4 in G minor, K. 516, with String Circle by Kenji Bunch, whose music will be featured throughout the ISO’s 2026–27 season.
The series continues November 9–15 with Woodwind Quintet, featuring the winds of the ISO in an eclectic program spanning contemporary and 20th-century works. The program includes Samuel Barber’s Summer Music, one of the most celebrated works in the woodwind quintet repertoire, alongside works by Tania León, Jacques Ibert, Kenji Bunch and August Klughardt.
In February, the series presents The Music of Kenji Bunch, February 15–17, celebrating the work of the ISO’s 2026–27 Composer in the Spotlight. With Bunch in attendance, ISO musicians will perform works spanning his career, including Alpha Dog, Drift, Paraphraseology and danceband. The program brings together a variety of instrumental combinations featuring flute, clarinet, violin, cello, viola, piano, marimba and percussion.
The Chamber Music Series concludes March 29–31 with 200 Years of Beethoven, commemorating 200 years since the composer’s death. Pianist Gregory Martin joins ISO musicians Bella Seo, Associate Principal Second Violin, and Jiyeon Kim, Associate Principal Cello, for an evening featuring Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 1 in D major and Piano Trio in B-flat major, Op. 97, “Archduke.” The program also includes Bunch’s Dies Irae, connecting Beethoven’s legacy with the music of the ISO’s featured contemporary composer.
