Daniele Rustioni Conducts Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet

The powerful tone of Italian violinist Francesca Dego leads listeners through Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, as he sought to turn his suffering into beauty. Dego’s opera-conductor husband Daniele Rustioni weaves the tale of the star-crossed lovers with music from Prokofiev’s seventh ballet, Romeo and Juliet.

Did You Know...
Shostakovich finished the violin concerto in 1948, but it did not have a premiere until 1955 after Stalin’s death. Many of Shostakovich’s works were banned by the Soviet government during that window of time.

Celebrated for her sonorous tone, compelling interpretations and flawless technique, Francesca Dego is quickly becoming one of the most sought after young violinists on the international scene.
