Hilbert Circle Theatre


Ticket Taker

Responsibilities: The Hilbert Circle Theatre ticket taker greets patrons and scans their ticket as they enter the theatre. Each ticket taker will assist patrons by directing them to their seats, restrooms, and bar locations. When appropriate, ticket takers will direct patrons with questions regarding their season subscription or problems with their tickets to box office personnel. When the concert begins ticket takers will remain at their assigned doors to assist with latecomer seating and re-entry to the theatre. Following the concert the ticket takers will collect concert programs from patrons in an effort to recycle used programs. When necessary, ticket takers will notify the House Manager and Event Supervisor of any emergencies.

Requirements: Be outgoing and friendly, with a good understanding of the theater layout. Must be able to stand for approximately 4 hours.

Concert Usher

Responsibilities: Hilbert Circle Theatre concert ushers distribute program books and respond to seating questions. When appropriate, concert ushers will escort patrons to their seat location. Concert ushers will notify the House Manager or Event Supervisor of any seating concerns or problems. During the performance, concert ushers will assist patrons as they enter and exit the auditorium being careful to observe concert etiquette. Following the performance, concert ushers will collect concert programs from patrons in an effort to recycle used programs. When necessary, concert ushers will notify the House Manager and Event Supervisor of any emergencies.

Requirements: Be outgoing and friendly, with a good understanding of the theater layout. Must be able to stand for approximately 4 hours.

Bus Greeter

Responsibilities: During our Discovery concerts, bus greeters will welcome school buses as they arrive on Monument Circle. Bus Greeters provide a instruction package to the bus drivers that informs on where to park, and student pick up guidelines. Bus Greeters will provide instructions on the basic rules to the lead teacher and bus driver.

Requirements: This is a very active role that requires walking for long periods of time, this position is also located outside and volunteers work in all weather elements. Bus Greeters must be alert at all times and pay close attention to foot traffic on the circle and be able to follow instructions.

Escorts

Responsibilities: Discovery escort volunteers will assist with unloading students from their bus and guide students and teachers from their bus to the theatre. Escorts connect with the seating coordinator and inform what school group has arrived to ensure that the group is seated in the appropriate area.

Requirements: This is a very active role that requires walking for long periods of time, this position is also located outside and volunteers work in all weather elements. Escorts must be alert at all times and pay close attention to foot traffic on the circle and be able to follow instructions.

Coat Check Assistant

Responsibilities: Hilbert Circle Theatre coat check assistants will check in patron’s coats, umbrellas and large items. Coat check volunteers will often be asked directions for restrooms, seating area etc. During the performance, coat check volunteers many be asked to assit with coverage of doors so fellow volunteers may take a break.

Program Book Distributor

Responsibilities: Program Book Distributors are tasked with distributing program books, inserts, and rain checks (if necessary). All entry points will have a Program Book Distributor, depending on the location, several may be needed. These volunteers are allowed to bring 1 guest (for free) and are not eligible for future ticket comps. Volunteers will be released 5 minutes before the performance begins.

Requirements: Must be able to stand for the full duration of the volunteer shift which is approximately 2 hours long. Symphony on the Prairie concerts are located outside, so volunteers should be willing to work in all weather conditions. Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to all patrons as they enter the grounds and able to answer basic grounds directions as needed.

Will Call

Responsibilities: Will call volunteers distribute will call tickets at the ISO box office. Will call tickets are sorted by last name in alphabetical order. The volunteers also distribute staff comp tickets. Each night, volunteers will be given a list of staff members and their guests for will call ticket pick up. Will Call volunteers are allowed to bring 1 guest (for free) and are not eligible for future ticket comps.

Requirements: Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to all patrons as they arrive at the will call tent. Will Call volunteers should be able to answer basic grounds directions as needed. Symphony on the Prairie concerts are located outside, so volunteers should be willing to work in all weather conditions.

Premium Parking

Responsibilities: Premium Parking volunteers help direct cars in the Premium Parking lot. These volunteers will be assisted by a Conner Prairie staff member. Premium Parking volunteers are allowed to bring 1 guest (for free) and are not eligible for future ticket comps. Volunteers will be released 5 minutes after the performance begins.

Requirements: Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to all patrons as they arrive at the will call tent. Volunteers should be able to answer basic grounds directions as needed. Premium parking volunteers must be comfortable standing and walking for the full volunteer shift, which is approximately 2 hours long. Symphony on the Prairie concerts are located outside, so volunteers should be willing to work in all weather conditions. This position requires the volunteer to be on radio, so the ability to hear and use a radio is a must. (Radio training is given at each concert)

Ticket Taker

Responsibilities: Ticket Taker volunteers take tickets at one of three patron entry points (Main Gate, Apple Store Gate, or Apple Store rear gate). Volunteers are given a ticket belt containing a patron clicker and pass out tickets. For each arriving patron, volunteers will click their clicker. Boxes are placed near volunteers to place accumulating ticket stubs. Each gate will have a valid ticket board showing each valid and each invalid ticket. Ticket takers also assist with ticket sorting and counting once the performance begins provided gate coverage allows for this. Once the performance ends, ticket takers will be present at their assigned gate to answer questions, take programs and offer a friendly goodbye as patrons depart the grounds. Ticket taker volunteers will volunteer for the entire evening and will be given two complimentary tickets for any future performance.

Ticket takers must be able to stand for the full duration of patrons entering the grounds.

Playground Usher

Responsibilities: Playground Usher volunteers are tasked with overseeing the Symphony on the Prairie playground. The playground area is only available for children under 12 years of age. Children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult. Any children who appear older than 12 years of age or without an adult will be asked to leave. Volunteers will also need to ensure that dangerous horse play is not occurring. Volunteers will need to also report any accidents or injuries to the Head Usher or Event Supervisor. The playground area is equipped with benches and volunteers may opt to sit for the majority of the time. During certain performances the playground will close once music begins. Playground Usher volunteers will volunteer for the entire evening and also be given a 30 minute lunch break after the performance starts.

Requirements: Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to all patrons as they arrive at the will call tent. Playground volunteers should be able to answer basic grounds directions as needed. Symphony on the Prairie concerts are located outside, so volunteers should be willing to work in all weather conditions. This position requires the volunteer to be on radio, so the ability to hear and use a radio is a must. (Radio training is given at each concert)

Table Usher

Responsibilities: Table Usher volunteers are tasked with helping seat patrons in the table area. These tables are available for purchase through the ISO Box Office. Certain performances will sell out the table area; however a few tables may be available for purchase day-of. The table area is lettered and numbered. The diagram for the table area will be given to volunteers each performance. Each table is accompanied by a patron’s name or group name. Some patrons may need to meet with the table usher to see where their table is located. Up to four volunteers will work the area each evening and the majority of volunteers will have prior experience. Table Usher volunteers will volunteer for the entire evening and will be given two complimentary tickets for any future performance. Volunteers will also be given a 30 minute lunch break after the performance begins.

Requirements: Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to all patrons as they arrive at the will call tent. Table usher volunteers should have a thorough understanding of the grounds and able to offer assistance or directions as needed. Symphony on the Prairie concerts are located outside, so volunteers should be willing to work in all weather conditions. This position requires one table usher volunteer to be on radio, so the ability to hear and use a radio is a must(radio training is given at each concert). This is a very active role which requires standing and walking on uneven grounds. Volunteers must be able to stand prior to the performance starting.

Pathway Usher

Responsibilities: Pathway Usher volunteers are tasked with observing the main Symphony on the Prairie pathways. The Pathway Usher volunteer table, which is located off the main path, will be the home base for these volunteers. Every fifteen minutes, these volunteers will need to make a sweep of the pathways to answer any questions, assist patrons, or make patrons aware of any safety concerns. When not making a sweep, volunteers can sit at the Pathway Usher volunteer table. Pathway Usher volunteers will volunteer for the entire evening and will be given two complimentary tickets for any future performance. Volunteers will also be given a 30 minute lunch break after the performance begins.

Requirements: This is our most active role, so active volunteers are welcome. Volunteers will be on foot for the full duration of the night, with the exception of breaks which will be as needed and as coverage allows. Volunteers must be friendly and welcoming to all patrons as they arrive at the will call tent. Pathway Usher volunteers should have a thorough understanding of the grounds and able to offer assistance or directions as needed. Symphony on the Prairie concerts are located outside, so volunteers should be willing to work in all weather conditions.
