A Message From Artistic Advisor Jun Märkl

This season, the DeHaan Classical Series offers a notable repertoire as we explore the influence of literature on classical music. I am looking forward to our celebration of William Shakespeare in the season finale. From Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev to Mendelssohn, Shakespeare’s work has inspired composers from a variety of cultures and backgrounds, with wonderful results. The 22–23 season also features acclaimed soloists including Francesca Dego, Julia Bullock, Denis Kozhukhin, and more. Continuing our exploration of Unheard Voices with support from the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation, this season highlights works by Carlos Simon, Pavel Haas, Florence B. Price, and others. We are also excited to conclude the Beethoven 2020 Celebration featuring his Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Symphonies. The ISO will debut three new works that were especially commissioned to accompany those pieces.

I am grateful for your incredible support, which has been fundamental in ensuring the ISO’s mission. Your participation as an audience member has a profound influence on the orchestra, and creates a unique experience for each performance. I look forward to seeing you this season!

Jun Märkl, Artistic Advisor to the ISO
