Mozart & Salieri
Urbański treats Indianapolis to a tribute to one of the greatest rivalries of all time — Mozart and Salieri.
Behind the Curtain
with Associate Conductor Vince Lee
"Krzysztof is a huge fan of Dejan; is approach to piano, his musicianship, his color. They’ve worked together many times, in fact he’s been here every season that Krzysztof has been Music Director.
Most of Mozart's symphonies are in happy major keys. He wrote two symphonies in the key of G minor: Symphony No. 25 which is called the 'Little G Minor,' and Symphony No. 40 which is called the 'Great' or 'Big G Minor' which we opened the season with last year.
Mozart had such a short life, but from 1760-80 there was an artistic movement called Sturm und Drang (storm and stress). You have big contrasts, all of this fierce thunder and then the music completely changes, 180 degrees. Sturm und Drang was used not only in music but art and literature as well, and you can hear it represented in this piece."
