“Music,” wrote Claude Debussy, “must be as boundless as the wind. The sky. The sea.” La Mer is Debussy’s sensuous impression of the deep sea.
Behind the Curtain
with Associate Conductor Vince Lee
"Jun Märkl is the orchestra's favorite guest conductor, he loves coming back to Indianapolis. This performance features music about the sea and water. Debussy's La Mer is a symphony in three movements, each a different sketch of the sea."
About Jun Märkl
Jun Märkl has long been known as a highly respected interpreter of the core Germanic repertoire from both the symphonic and operatic traditions, and more recently for his refined and idiomatic explorations of the French impressionists.
"Jun Märkl’s outstanding Debussy series makes every piece sound like one of the most cherishable masterworks in the repertoire." – Classic FM
