Edo De Waart Conducts Elgar
Elgar's Enigma Variations stands as one of the great mysteries of classical music, leaving listeners to ponder the puzzle that Elgar took to his grave. The Chairman Dances began as a foxtrot and comes from Act III of Nixon in China, written by Adams as a warm up before taking on the composition of the full opera.
"The Enigma I will not explain. Its 'dark saying' must be left unguessed." —Edward Elgar
