Classical Jam with the ISO
a program for ADULT MUSICIANS
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on the Hilbert Circle Theatre stage? Classical Jam is your chance to rehearse, mingle, and perform with with ISO! A conductor leads rehearsal with guests and ISO members playing side by side. A rehearsal break and reception allows you to mingle with your musical colleagues before returning to the stage for a casual performance of the piece.
The next Classical Jam is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 7:00pm. The orchestra will rehearse and perform Movement IV from Dvořák Symphony No. 9 in E Minor ("From the New World").
The cost to participate is $45 and can be paid by cash, check, or card. A reduced fee of $25 is available to band, orchestra, and classroom teachers.
Orchestral parts are assigned on a first come, first served basis (no audition required). Acceptance is limited to space available, and your assignment will be confirmed via email. Digital parts are available below.
As of October 5th, the following positions are available for the October 17th Classical Jam: 3 Second Violins.
All other instruments/parts will be put on a waiting list.
*These are the full parts, but only Movement IV will be played on October 17th
Who should apply?
If you are an adult who plays an orchestral instrument and would love to play with the ISO at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, this is for you! Classical Jam is an opportunity created for adult amateur musicians to experience a day with the ISO.
How many applicants will the ISO accept?
Our goal is to include as many participants as we can and still comfortably accommodate both ISO musicians and participants together in the orchestra. Space will be limited. Should we run out of space to play, you’re welcome to join us as an observer.
What is the repertoire?
The repertoire for October 17th is Movement IV from Dvořák Symphony No. 9 in E Minor ("From the New World"), but we've previously performed Mahler Symphony No. 1 in D Major (Titan), Movement I and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique), Movement I.
Is there a cost to participate?
Yes. The cost is $45 and can be paid by cash, check, or card. A reduced fee of $25 is available for band, orchestra, and classroom teachers. Snacks and drinks are provided during the event.
What should I bring? How should I dress?
Please bring your instrument and a copy of the music that will be provided electronically. If you play a large percussion instrument, let us know on your application if you need help acquiring an instrument to play. This is a casual evening, so feel free to dress comfortably!
