The Proud Tradition
The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is an 81-year success story and an integral part of the cultural fabric of Indianapolis and Central Indiana. From the beginning, the Orchestra has sought opportunities to grow artistically and to serve the Central Indiana community through its music and programming.
At the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, we are one team committed to achieving our mission through outstanding performances on and off the stage. The mission of the Orchestra communicates its orientation, its destiny and its artistic values, including our core commitment to high artistic achievement. To fulfill that commitment and its mission, the Orchestra is supported by an ongoing artistic budget and financial plan that provides a level of stability that is unique among full-time American orchestras.
A Commitment to Excellence
The primary artistic challenge is to continually raise the level of performances and not just maintain the status quo. Meeting and maintaining the commitment to the highest artistic standards are critical to the Orchestra’s continuing success. The cost of running a major arts organization today is slowly beginning to outpace the ability of the community to support it at the level necessary to meet those growing needs. As a result, it is imperative that we continue to fundraise aggressively in order to be able to afford what our audiences deserve and expect.
