Arkady Orlovsky

Arkady Orlovsky became a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1978. He earned his doctorate from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the Russian city of his birth where he studied with Mstislav Rostropovich. Before immigrating to the United States, he served as principal cello with the Kirov Opera in St. Petersburg and the Rome Opera in Italy.
With the ISO, he has appeared often as soloist. Orlovsky serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Columbus (IN) Symphony Orchestra and the Russian Festival Orchestra. He was a faculty member at Butler University and has directed the chamber music series at Zionsville United Methodist Church. With his wife, a noted concert pianist, he has been a frequent recitalist and has recorded two compact discs of chamber works. The Orlovskys are the parents of one son. When not involved directly in music, Orlovsky enjoys electronics, antiques and cars.
Perry Scott

Perry Scott is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and earned B.M. and M.M. degrees from Indiana University. His major teachers have included Luca DiCecco, Fritz Magg and Janos Starker. Before joining the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in February 1980, he played in the Hamilton (Ont.) Philharmonic.
Scott is married to ISO violinist Lisa Scott, and they are the parents of two sons. Perry and Lisa, along with Perry’s brother, ISO acting associate principal viola Beverly Scott, and Beverly’s wife make up the Scott Chamber Players, an ensemble heard often in the central Indiana area. Perry has served as a section coach for the ISO’s Side by Side program and has often been heard as soloist with the Orchestra. Away from music, he enjoys photography, sports and botany.
Robert Sansone

Robert Sansone became a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in February 1969. The native of Los Angeles holds a B.A. degree from the University of Utah and has studied with Ilya Bronson (his grandfather), Kurt Reber and Gregor Piatigorsky. Before coming to Indianapolis, Sansone played in the Utah, Glendale, Pasadena and Hollywood Bowl symphony orchestras and was principal cello of the San Diego Symphony.
Sansone is married to an IPS teacher and is the father of one daughter. His off-stage interests include astronomy, computers, locksmithing and photography. He made the cellos on which he performs and formerly served as Webmaster for the Orchestra’s home page on the World Wide Web.
Sarah Boyer
Cello
Sarah Boyer is a native of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and grew up in a musical family. She earned a B.M. degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and studied with David Soyer, Marion Davies and Paul Cartwright before joining the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1980.
Ms. Boyer is a founding member of the Quattra String Quartet and regularly performs with Suzuki & Friends. She serves as a section coach for the ISO’s Side by Side program and a member of the String Rotation Committee. In her spare time she enjoys her Vizsla dogs, photography and computer graphics.
Ingrid Fischer– Bellman
Cello
Ingrid Fischer-Bellman was born in Bucharest, Romania, and received her advanced musical training at Tel-Aviv University Music Academy and Indiana University School of Music. Her major teachers have included Janos Starker, Paul Tortelier, Uzi Wiesel and Samuel Shore. Before joining the cello section of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1978, she played with the Jeunesse Musicale International Orchestra, the Holon Chamber Orchestra and the Tel-Aviv Academy Chamber Orchestra.
Ms. Fischer-Bellman also is quite active in community outreach as an Artists In Schools instructor in the ISO’s School Partnership Program. She has appeared as soloist with the Jerusalem Radio Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis and the Carmel Symphony. Married to ISO principal clarinet David Bellman, they are the parents of one daughter and co-founders of the Ronen Chamber Ensemble. She enjoys painting, reading and nature walks.
Geoffrey S. Lapin

The Ambassador Randall L. Tobias Chair
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Geoffrey S. Lapin became a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1972 and holds degrees in cello performance from the University of Indianapolis and Butler University, with additional study at Indiana University and the Peabody Conservatory. His principal teachers have included Gary Hoffman, Shirley Tabachnick, Vladimir Orloff and Janos Starker.
Lapin is an acknowledged expert in the field of children’s literature. His research in that area has been noted in People and The New York Times, and he has been a guest on the Today Show. With over 30 works published by literary journals and The Best of Library Literature, he has written materials for many of the Orchestra’s educational activities, including the tabloid newspaper that is distributed to all students that attend the Young People’s Discovery Concerts, as well as three educational video scripts, the most recent of which earned a prestigious, national “Telly Award.” He is a frequent host of the ISO’s Words on Music sessions.
Lapin is active as a representative of abused and neglected children through the Indiana Courts System and is certified by the Indiana Supreme Court as a Domestic Relations Mediator. His service to the Orchestra and in the community prompted his selection as the 2000 Patch Leadership Award recipient.

Mark Maryanovsky
Cello
Mark Maryanovsky was born in Riga, Latvia, and he studied with Valentin Feigin and Sergei Shirinsky at the Moscow Conservatory and Harvey Shapiro at Juilliard. He played principal cello in the Moscow Conservatory Orchestra and the Riga Chamber Orchestra and, after immigrating to the United States in 1979, was a member of the Brooklyn Philharmonic and played as a substitute with the Baltimore Symphony before joining the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1985.
Married to a ballerina with Ballet Internationale, Maryanovsky owns the Tone Studio, a high-end audio store. He is an amateur architect and has designed and built his own home and store.
Anne Duthie McCafferty

The Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Rudesill Chair
Anne Duthie McCafferty became a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra cello section in 1973. A native of this city, she graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and studied at Indiana University. Her major teachers included former ISO cellists Norma Woodbury and Shirley Evans Tabachnick as well as T. S. Tsutsumi and Leopold Teraspulsky at IU. Before joining the ISO, she was assistant principal cello of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
Ms. McCafferty is the winner of the 1992 Patch Leadership Award and has served the Orchestra as a member of the Speakers Bureau, Side by Side section coach and School Partnership Classroom Artist. A former faculty member at Taylor University and the University of Indianapolis, Ms. McCafferty was a member of the Spring Mill String Quartet and the Tarkington Trio and currently performs with the Peaceful Valley Chamber Players. She and her husband, also a cellist, are the parents of one son.

Katherine Vaccaro Natali

Katherine Vaccaro Natali was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in St. Louis. She attended Webster University and earned B.M. and M.M. degrees from Butler University. Her major teachers have included Joan Mack and Shirley Evans Tabachnick. Before joining the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1972, she was a member of the St. Louis Philharmonic.
Ms. Natali founded the Leitton String Quartet and was a member of the Dorian String Quartet and the Indiana Little Symphony. Her volunteer work includes Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory and other educational institutions. The mother of two sons, she enjoys meditation, reading, gardening and jogging.
Jian-Wen Tong
Cello
A native of China, Jian-Wen Tong began studying the cello at age 6. He was educated at the Shang-Hai Conservatory of Music and won a top prize in the 1988 National Cello Competition in China. His string quartet placed fourth in the Portsmouth International Competition in England in 1988. In 1989 he began his study with Eleanor Schoenfeld at the University of Southern California. He has been heard in many recitals around Southern California and as a soloist with the Burbank Chamber Orchestra and the Westchester Symphony and won second prize in the 1991 Irving Klein International String Competition.
Before joining the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in September 1997, he was a member of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra since 1992 and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra since 1993. Married to ISO violist Stephanie Tong, he enjoys computers, automobiles, traveling and watching movies.
